NZ Seeks Answers From USP Alleged Mismanagement
The New Zealand government is now asking for explanations about the alleged mismanagement at the University of the South Pacific.
There were claims of mismanagement, questionable staff appointments and pay increments over several years.
New Zealand is USP’s second largest funder and had contributed $3.5 million New Zealand dollars in 2017.
This year, the New Zealand High Commissioner signed an agreement extending its current partnership with USP til the end of 2019.
The partnership has a total core funding of $5.15 million New Zealand Dollars, which is a three per cent increase from the immediate prior arrangement.
Meanwhile, during Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s visit to Fiji this year, he announced a new partnership of $84 million for the next six years.
The matter is currently being investigated by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption.
