A two day knowledge-sharing workshop on hybrid vehicles, lithium ion batteries and scrap metals began at the Pearl Resort yesterday.

Fiji’s Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Parveen Bala said issues  discussed between the stakeholder’s present at the workshop will enhance policy formulations.

“I am confident that cross cutting issues between different agencies will be discussed and relevant polices can be formulated”, Bala said.

The workshop will also discuss on the formulation and finalization of the draft Occupational Health Service Strategy for Fiji.

“The second part of the workshop will discuss on the formulation and finalization of the draft 2019-2023 Occupational Health Service Strategy for Fiji  by the Advisory committee on Occupational Health Services,” he said.

The issues surrounding hybrid vehicles can be OHS risk to Fiji’s work places and the general public since it only entered Fiji’s automobile market and roads in 2015. The growing number of hybrid vehicles in the last four years has been enormous.

“This workshop becomes even more important as we move forward towards discussions and actions on the increasing issues of post use strategies on Hybrid vehicles, lithium ion Batteries and Scrap metals,” he added.
