Ageing infrastructure, under size pipes, Geographical locations, and Operation work were some of the challenges raised by the Water Authority of Fiji during their 2013-2014 Annual Report Submission.
This was raised by their General Manager for Planning and Design-Nemani Waqanivalu.
They made their submission to the Standing Committee on Natural Resources in Parliament last week.
Waqanivalu says the authority had to replace old network of pipes and pumps infrastructure which the authority had been tasked of replacing, augmenting and relocating as they have been working in conjunction with the Fiji Roads Authority Projects across the country.
Geographical and Topographical challenges due to customer locations was the other issues raised by WAF, this will be addressed by using new technology to include Climate Resilient Utility.
He also highlighted that most of their Operation work is done manually and is time consuming as it takes up human and financial resources.
Waqanivalu says such added challenges add to the Requirements of High Energy cost that account for $23 million in their Annual Bills which comes from their Operations Budget.
