The Fiji Women’s Fund took an opportune time to launch its Annual progress Report on the eve of International Women’s Day at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Suva today.
The Minister for Women,Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa, officiated at the event ,saying that the fund supports activities across each of its four thematic areas.
“Namely Eliminating Violence Against Women, Strengthening womens groups and coalitions for change,Empowering women through increased economic opportunities and improving women’s participation in leadership and decision making,” Vuniwaqa said.
She said the fund is extremely important given their commitment of AUS$10.5 million from 2017 to 2022 for funding and capacity development support to women’s groups, networks, and organizations in Fiji to expand and enhance their work on women’s empowerement and gender equality.
Speakers included Fund manager – Michelle Reddy, Fiji Womens Fund Steering Committee Chair – Nalini Singh and Acting Australian High Commissioner to Fiji – Anna Dorney .
