Minister for Youth and Sports, Laisenia Tuitubou yesterday presented incentives to the three Commonwealth Games medal recipients at Nasoqo House.
Minister Tuitubou while congratulating the athletes said that the incentives are a source of encouragements for the athletes and is part of the Ministry’s budget.
19 year old, Eileen Cikamatama bought Team Fiji the only gold medal after lifting a total of 233kg in the women’s 90kg weight category.
Receiving a cheque of $10,000 on her behalf was her mother, Maria Maketalena.
Taveuni weightlifter Apolonia Vaivai who settled for a Bronze medal after lifting 216kg in the 69kg category also received her cheque of $5000.
“This will help me and my family back home,” said Apolonia.
Winston Hill who represented Fiji in the Boxing arena also won a Bronze medal and said he was humbled by the token of appreciation shown towards him and his fellow athletes.
