The late Vincent Lobendahn was laid to rest today.
People from all walks of life attended the funeral service of the former Minister for Telecommunication, Minister for Public Works, Infrastructure and Transport and Minister for Labour and Industrial Relations in the SVT Government under former Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.
Lobendahn passed away at the age of 81.
Those who have worked with him and personal friends came in numbers to say goodbye to someone who was always there to support them.
‘He did so much for so many, we will never know. He wrote letters, he supported applications, gave endorsements, references. People all over the world were emailing back to families just thanking Vincent for where they are today just by his personal support,’ said Culden Kamea a Family Friend.
Lobendahn was not only a dedicated man to his work or serving his country but he always valued family and cared so much about people who needed his help.
He was adored by his 27 grandchildren and will be dearly missed.
‘He had so many amazing qualities that his family tried to live up to. He was respectful. He was there to offer help to others when they needed it and he was the compass of souls that always seeking to approve the education of his grandchildren; even until his last few weeks. He was family orientated, loved and cherished each member of his ever growing family,’ said his son, Vincent Lobendahn Junior.
‘He never passed judgement on anybody. He was never scolded anybody. I’ve never heard him talk badly about anybody. Sometime he would be disappointed at how things were, how we talk but he would never hate you for it,’ said his grandson – Lawrence Osborne.
He was laid to rest at the old Suva cemetery.
