Team USA Swimmers will be using this week’s Junior Pan Pacific Championship to make the cut for their final National squad for the new season leading up to the 2020 Olympics.
Team Director- Mitch Dalton says they have fielded potential swimmers to represent the country and have been working tirelessly with them to meet their target before competition starts this Thursday.
He adds most of the their swimmers are eyeing a spot in their National squad for the 2020 Olympics.
“Our National team have not been announced until about a week after. But this is the last competition where they can qualify for the national team. And based on some times, they already did to get here- we have a very good number of people that want to make the national team.”
Winning medals will not be a top priority for the squad.
However, Dalton says coaches have been working closely with the swimmers to improve their performance in all areas of the sport.
Team USA will be fielding a total of 40 swimmers for the four days championship that will start this Thursday and ends on Sunday at the Damodar Aquatic Centre in Suva.
