Suva City Council welcomed their newly appointed special board of administrators today.
Minister for Premila Kumar said that she is happy with the caliber of the special board members.
“For Suva City Council what we really needed was a group of people who can think collectively, for the benefit of our affairs but they’re able to make commercial decisions”, she said.
She added that municipalities can not continue to operate as just a service center and needs to provide services expected by the rate payers.
Newly appointed chairman and Mayor of Suva city Isikeli Tikoduadua while delivering his first address says growth in activity within Suva requires councils to adjust with the demand in increased services and to meet the requirements of its citizens.
The Special Board of Administrators include Janice Nand, Kerry Megan Mara, Vilash Chand and Vimal Kumar and will look after both Suva and Lami.
