Fijians giving false information for the purpose of receiving a benefit from Government will be punished.
Only those Fijians whose homes were directly damaged or destroyed or whose possessions were lost or damaged by Tropical Cyclone Josie and Kenu are eligible to receive assistance under Homes-CARE.
However, those that give false information will be required to pay up to 20 thousand dollars or an imprisonment of up to 10 years.
Spot checks will be conducted by the Ministry of Economy audit teams to verify claims.
Concerned Fijians can also dial 2273 to report suspected abuse of the Homes-CARE program.
