Parliament will have a special meeting this Friday.

In a parliament statement this afternoon the Speaker Dr Jiko Luveni has advised that a special Parliament sitting will be held on Friday at 9.30am, to appoint the President of the Republic of Fiji.

Pursuant to section 85(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Fiji, ‘The President holds office for 3 years, and is eligible for re-appointment for one further term of 3 years, but is not eligible for re-appointment after that.’

Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote was appointed by Parliament on 12 October 2015.
