Small business entrepreneurs from the around the country were today recognised for their commitment towards their businesses.

Officiating at the 2017 National Micro-finance Awards, Permanent Secretary for Industry, Trade and Tourism Mr Shaheen Ali said one of the important objectives of the Fijian Government is to see our local enterprise grow and their contribution to the Fijian economy is vital.

“We see MSME’s as the bedrock for innovation and creative bankable ideas. The Fijian government has also put in place initiatives that aim to support the MSME sector,” Mr Ali said.

“This is embodied in our 5 year and 20 year National Development Plan. The plan sets the foundation for continued efforts to enhance the institutional setting, access to finance, business incubation and training and access to critical markets.

Governor of Reserve Bank of Fiji Ariff Ali commended the recipients for their commitment towards their businesses.

Mr Ali said for a developing country like Fiji , the potential for the micro enterprises sector to be a driver of economic growth cannot be underestimated.

There were four categories of awards this included Young category, Individual category, Partnership category and Micro finance service providers.
