Sigatoka Special School defended its Special Olympics futsal championship title defeating Suva 4-0 in the final last Thursday at Fiji Football Association futsal court in Vatuwaqa.
The Stallions defeated Lautoka 3-1 in the first semi-final while Suva came out victors against Nasinu 2-1 in the second.
In the final Sigatoka proved too strong for the Capital City boys with the goals from Arieta Lala, Peni M and two goals from Dhiraj Ram.
Sigatoka coach Vilitati Kina said he was very proud of his team.
“I am very proud and salute my players for playing their hearts out in the competition.”
‘We really came prepared and had faith in our players despite fielding one female player, “Kina said.
Kina said their hard work and sacrifice paid them.
“These players showed their commitment and dedication during training and they worked really hard today (Thursday) to defend the title and I salute them for that, “he said.
Kina believes some of his players have potential to feature at club levels.
“I am sure some of my players, if given chance will don the district jersey.”
Suva coach said he was happy losing to a better side.
“I am happy despite we lost but my boys played really well. Sigatoka was a good team and they really played well. Heads off to my boys,”Nadan said.
He said reaching final was the biggest achievement for them.
“We are proud that we reached to the final and we will go back and work on our weakness and for sure come next year we will do much better.”
