Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary for Civil Aviation, Sharvada Sharma yesterday delivered welcome remarks at the ICAO-UNDP “Capacity Building Seminar on Low Emissions Aviation Measures” and welcomed ICAO’s Deputy Director, Jane Hupe at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi.
The Permanent Secretary highlighted on the importance of Fiji and other small island developing nations in committing into climate change mitigation measures and reducing emission levels while adapting to climate change.
“Aviation is undoubtedly one of the fastest growing contributors of carbon emissions and we all need to play our part and strive collectively to achieve the ambitious targets that we agreed to in ICAO 39th Assembly,” the PS said.
The seminar included delegates from the Pacific Island States, Australia, Korea, Singapore, Jamaica as well as regional and international organisations.
This two-day seminar is organized by ICAO, UNDP and GEF and will be used to raise awareness on various funding mechanisms available to small island developing states in implementing aviation emission measures.
