Sefanaia Cikamatana is standing by his daughter and Fiji’s weightlifting golden girl Eileen Cikamatana.
Speaking exclusively to Fiji One News in Levuka, the carrier driver from Tavia in Ovalau said he’ll continue to support his daughter even though she has quit the sport as she does not want to train under the new Iranian coach Hossein Tavakoli.
Eileen has not revealed to her dad the four countries who are after her service if the differences between her and weightlifting Fiji are not resolved.
“I told her that it’s her decision and I reminded her that every good thing will bear fruit or she will reward the reward one day. I also told her that she should choose a country which will be comfortable with. I will continue to support her and a lot of people are also supporting her.”
The Commonwealth Games gold medallist has walked away in protest at the removal of her long-time coach.
Sefanaia belives Levuka has given so much to the sport of weightlifting in the country so there’s no need to bring the athletes over to train in Suva.
“I think Levuka club has taken weightlifting to another level has put Fiji on the sport’s global map as well. I hope the decision makers will look into that and back then there was no gym in Levuka but now they want to move it to Suva when all the lifters are from Levuka.”
