12 Schools from the Suva area are taking advantage of the 2019 IWF Junior World Championships by participating in its “Voices of the Athletes” Schools Program.
By exposing the students to such a high caliber competition, Weightlifting Fiji expects to spark further interest in the sport and also create a pathway for an active and healthy life.
The Ministry of Education has approved students from Suva-based Secondary Schools to come watch the Championship between the 3rd to the 5th of June.
The program will be at no cost to the schools or the students, as it is supported by Fiji Bus Operators Association in collaboration with its members.
The program has 5 components:
1. Play Safe – STOP HIV / AIDS in Fiji
2. Play True – Information on Anti-Doping
3. Go Green – Sustainable Coastlines
4. Be a Leader – Be a Leader on and off the sports field
5. Staying Healthy – Focus on a healthy lifestyle and combatting NCDs
This will enable these students to watch, learn and get inspired by the world-class athletes that will be competing in a first World Championships in the Pacific, as well as take part in the Olympic Values Program that will be run at the venue.
The Championship will also showcase and inspire the next generation of lifters and a create new heroes.
