Relocation is the best long term solution but the final decision is to be made by the villages.
Those were the comments made by Mahendra Reddy Minister for Waterways, referring to Moala villagers in Nadi yesterday.
Reddy highlighted this during discussion with the villages themselves.
There are close to 700 Fijians that reside in Moala village and the nearby settlements.
He says that government will always be erady to assist the village through river bank protection work, but it all depends on whether they want to be relocated.
Reddy was conducting a two day site visit on flood prone villages in the west as part of his ministry scoping works to reduce the risk of flooding in these areas.
Villages that was visited by Dr Reddy included Yako, Moala, Navatulevu, Narewa, Nakavu in Nadi and Vitogo in Lautoka.
