Last night marked the official opening of RedR Australia’s Pacific office by CEO, Kirsten Sayers, and Australian High Commissioner to the Republic of Fiji, John Feakes.

RedR Australia, with 26 years of emergency response experience, has deployed more than 1000 specialists to over 85 countries and is the leading and only Standby Partner to the United Nations in the Asia-Pacific.

Supported by the Australian Government, last October saw the introduction of a new integrated civilian capability, the Australia Assists program, which encompasses the whole disaster cycle.

RedR Australia Regional Manager, Mark Brooking, said he was delighted to be establishing the new office in Suva, providing ongoing assistance and training under the Australia Assists program for the Pacific region moving forward.

In the Pacific, the Australia Assists program is already supporting nationally- and locally-led efforts in disaster risk reduction, preparedness, response and recovery in Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga and Papua New Guinea.
