The Commissioner of Police Sitiveni Qiliho has confirmed that Ratu Epenisa Cakobau continues to be questioned by Police.

The Fiji Police Force yesterday cleared the air on why members of the Republic of Fiji Military Force were present in Bau Island to take the Bau High Chief Ratu Epenisa Cakobau for questioning.

A statement provided by Police yesterday stated that they had requested the Republic of Fiji Military Forces to provide armed protection in the event of any confrontation with traditionally armed warriors who had already arrived on the island of Bau.

Police however maintained the lead role in the operation and the few armed soldiers were present for police protection as they are an unarmed Force.

Ratu Epenisa Cakobau and others – were taken in for questioning yesterday after information was received that they were going ahead with the installation ceremony, despite the decision made by the Native Lands Commission yesterday afternoon.

The installation of the Vunivalu of Bau has been called off – after the Native Lands Commission found, that protocol has been breached in the selection of the proposed candidate – Ratu Epenisa Cakobau.
