Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama met the Governor of Saga Prefecture Yoshinori Yamaguchi in Tokyo, Japan.
The Prime Minister expressed Fiji’s appreciation to Governor Yamaguchi for his personal support in establishing and deepening relations with Fiji.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister thanked the Saga Prefecture Government for inviting and sponsoring Queen Victoria School (QVS) and Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) in the Sanix World Rugby Youth Tournament since 2016, and stated that Fiji looked forward to Saga’s continuous support in future rugby exchanges.
The Governor is a keen and a passionate follower of rugby, and has been instrumental in securing sports development cooperation between Fiji and Japan.
“I am totally impressed with the performance of the Under18 RKS Rugby Team. The boys were very powerful, skillful and very good at the maul and I wondered who trained them,” he said.
Governor Yamaguchi expressed his support for Fiji’s Rugby team and extended an invitation to the Fiji 7s and 15s teams for their preparation training for the Rugby World Cup in Japan in 2019.
“I look forward to more rugby exchanges not only in 7s but also in 15s and wish them success in the next World Cup,” he said.
The Prime Minister also thanked the Saga Prefecture Government for expressing interest to be Fiji’s “Host Town” during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics and highlighted on opportunities for further collaboration.
