A nationwide traffic operation is now underway as trends shows a high number of fatal accidents are often recorded during the month of December.
The road death toll currently stands at 65 compared to 61 for the same period last year and with eight lives lost during the month of December in 2017, all efforts are being made to avoid further loss of lives.
The Western Division continues to be a major area of concern recording the highest number of fatal accidents with 40 of the 65 deaths recorded to date.
The festive season will be a hive of activity and social gatherings which are likely to involve the consumption of alcohol.
Chief Operations Officer ACP Maretino Qiolevu says that with 15 deaths linked to drunk driving already this year,police are concerned that the warnings about the dangers of drunk driving is not being taken seriously.
Traffic operations will be boosted by officers conducting routine operations during the festive season operations which will run till the mid-January.
