A police officer was allegedly bumped by a vehicle at a snap checkpoint along the Wainibokasi Road on Friday morning.
The officer who is based at the Nausori Highway was on operations and was manning a snap checkpoint erected along the Wainibokasi Road when he was allegedly bumped by a vehicle driven by a man in his 40s from Nepani.
He was conveyed to the Nausori Health Center where he was admitted under observation. The driver is being questioned.
He was transferred to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital yesterday morning after 6am where unfortunately the Ambulance transporting the officer and a relative was involved in another accident.
The driver of the Ambulance is alleged to have lost control of the vehicle causing it to veer off the road and tumbled five times at Sawani along Princess Road.
The officer and his sister sustained injuries during the second incident and were conveyed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital by the driver of a passing vehicle where they are now receiving treatment.
We would like to once again request drivers to be mindful of traffic officers who are out on our busy roads conducting traffic duties.
This is not the first time a traffic officer has been bumped during the course of his or her duties.
Drivers need to be alert and aware of their presence as they have been deployed to ease the flow of traffic during peak periods and later in the nights are deployed to crackdown on illegal operators and drunk drivers who risk the lives of others by choosing to drink and drive
