The Fiji Police Force had requested the Republic of Fiji Military Forces to provide armed protection in the event of any confrontation with traditionally armed warriors who had already arrived on the island of Bau.

Police however maintained the lead role in the operation and the few armed soldiers were present for police protection as we are an unarmed Force.

Bau High Chief, Ratu Epenisa Cakobau and others – were taken in for questioning by Police this morning.

This was confirmed by people on the island of Bau.

A team of police officers were in Bau yesterday, and visited the island again this morning.

They have taken in Ratu Epenisa Cakobau and key players for questioning, after information was received that they were going ahead with the installation ceremony, despite the decision made by the Native Lands Commission yesterday afternoon.

The installation of the Vunivalu of Bau has been called off – after the Native Lands Commission found, that protocol has been breached in the selection of the proposed candidate – Ratu Epenisa Cakobau.
