“Your country doesn’t need to be a maritime nation or even have a coastline in order to understand that the health of oceans and climate change are indivisible. Addressing oceans challenges require that all UN bodies, and our partners in the private sector and civil society, remain committed to an integrated, collaborative global effort.”

This was the message delivered by the Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama during the high-level panel on Sustainable Oceans Economy for Fiji, Norway, Kenya and Portugal at the UN headquarters in New York.

Prime Minister Bainimarama said sustainable oceans are one of Fiji’s top priorities.

Fiji is also calling for a ten-year moratorium on deep sea mining in the Pacific from 2020 to 2030 while the potential environment hazards and benefits are fully assessed
