The South Pacific Business Development and Courts Fiji Limited together with the Ministry of Women have renewed their long ongoing partnership by another two years.
Minister for Women , Mereseini Vuniwaqa was present to witness the formalising of the parnership that would help the economic capabilities of rural and remote communities.
“It is indeed pleasing to see that corporate entities have placed key focus on empowering women as entrepreneurs in support of Government’s commitment to strengthening the economic participation of all Fijians and in particular for women, as one of its major priorities,” said Vuniwaqa.
She added that in the absence of a chance at entering the labor force, initiatives that allow women to engage in income generation activities from their homes while carrying out their duties as care workers are crucial to promote greater economic participation and earning abilities of these women.
“Women play important roles in the rural economy they work as farmers and laborers however, because of gender-based discrimination and social norms, most of women’s work remains unrecognized and undervalued and we as a growing economy cannot afford this.”
