Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate commissioned rural electrification project for Vunayawa Settlement in Sabeto, Nadi yesterday.
This will greatly benefit 18 households that can now use electrical appliances in their homes and whose children are able to study longer in the evenings.
“The power of affordable and reliable electricity is among the most critical pillars for the development of any country- Fiji is no different, and every Fijian deserves to share in the life-changing benefits that electricity provides,” Usamate said.
The Vunayawa Grid Extension Project costs about $75,000 with house wiring works coming to $18,000 and benefiting close to 100 Vunayawa residents.
Over 25,000 Fijian households have been connected to rural electrification, with another 6,623 households underway, as per the 2018/2019 National Budget.
