The 12th Oceania Swimming Championship officially starts in Papua New Guinea this evening.
The Opening Ceremony marked the official start of the Championships which was held in Port Moresby last night.
James Kado one of the youngest member on the team was the Fiji Swim Teams flag bearer.
The beautiful traditional dances were performed by five different traditional tribal groups which drew loud applause and cheers from the swim teams.
Fiji swimmers were also welcomed by Fiji’s ambassador to Papua New Guinea Esala Teleni.
Athletes from the likes of New Zealand, as well as smaller Pacific nations such as Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, are among those set to participate in the five-day competition.
The 50 metres fly, 200 metres breast, 200 m freestyle, 100 metres breast, 1500 metres freestyle, 4 by 50m mixed free relay and 4 by 100m mixed medley relay heats will be contested today.
