Yesterday was a heartbreaking day for the Outrigger family and the tourism industry – as they farewelled one of the industry’s stalwart , who revolutionized Fiji’s tourism sector, ensuring that it keeps up with today’s trends.
Peter Hopgood is Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort general manager, a man who will call it a day on the 16th of July – after serving 8 years of dedicated service – and transforming the five star property – into one of Fiji’s most sought vacation destination.
In the past 24 years – Hopgood had been the general manager of 8 resorts and hotels , and that includes the Grand Hotel Melbourne – a Boutique serviced apartment hotel – and the Hamilton Island Resort in Queensland.
The 60 year old accepted the role as General Manger on December 2009.
Hopgood was awarded the Tourism Leader at the ANZ Fiji Excellence in Tourism Award in 2015 and the Ashley Spencer Service to the Hospitality Industry Award – in recognition of his tireless support towards the local communities.
Hopgood will be returning to Australia with his family.
