The NGO Coalition for Human Rights is concerned over Fiji Police’s alleged assault leading to the death of Josua Lalauvaki.
Coalition Chair, Nalini Singh said its important for Authorities to bear the responsibility for ending impunity for torture, it is a crime and an extremely serious violation of Human Rights.
“The NGO Coalition for Human Rights is deeply concerned about the Fiji Police alleged assault which resulted in the death of Mr Josua Laulauvaki and we need to ascertain for the death. We need to strongly begin an independent investigation. We welcome the Police Commissioners recent remarks and comments around that an investigation has been directed. However we think that it should be independent and that should be no Impunity granted to all those responsible,” said Nalini Singh- Chair-NGO Coalition for Human Rights.
Singh adds the NGO Coalition on Human Rights emphasises the need for an independent investigation, of which the results should be made Public.
“We Hope that certainly that the full extent of a either this procedure be carried out and in the end we reiterate there should be no Impunity for those responsible for this Death.”
