“In a few years time, I will not be here. One of you has to become the new Minister for health. So it is important that you grow up strong and healthy”.
This was the message delivered by the Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr.Ifereimi Waqainabete while speaking to students of Rishikul Primary School during the launch of the National Tooth Brushing day in Suva today.
Minister Waqainabete said events such as the National Tooth Brushing day is unique and relevant for all Fijian students because it acknowledges the importance of maintaining good oral health.
He also told students to remember to look after their oral health, refrain from smoking because it causes a lot of health issues and ensure that they brush their teeth twice a day.
Marketing manager for Colgate Palmolive Fiji Ltd Jyotika Devi said Fijian students are fortunate to have the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts who supports lunchtime tooth brushing drills in primary schools and the collaboration between the school health teams and schools around Fiji is remarkable.
Today’s event is a worthy investment if it is able to provide Fijians with free tooth brushes and toothpaste to reinforce the important message of proper tooth brushing.”
This year’s event has estimated a total of 173,000 students and adults participating in the National Tooth Brushing day which was also held in other parts of the country.
