The National Disaster Management Office is advising those living in low lying areas to exercise caution as heavy rain is expected to continue in most parts of the country.
Reports have been received that some low lying areas are currently facing flashfloods including roads in Navua, Namatakula and Naboutini. The NDMO is urging motorists to take extra precaution and adjust travelling plans as heavy rain is expected to continue tonight.
Director NDMO, Anare Leweniqila confirms that the Queens Highway from Navutulevu to Lami will be temporarily closed until further notice due to rising floodwaters and landslides.
The bridges that are currently underwater are Galoa, Yarawa and Naboutini while a there is a landslide in Talenauwa.
It is important for parents to ensure the safety of their children. They must not be allowed to swim in flooded rivers or creeks as this may lead to cases of drowning.
