More help is underway for victims of violence as the Ministry for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation and the Soroptimist International South West Pacific SISWP delegation signed a MOU yesterday.
Permanent Sectary for Ministry for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Dr. Josefa Koroivueta thanked the President of the Soroptimist International South West Pacific (SISWP) Dato’ Anusha Santhirasthipam for their initiative to build shelters for women and children who are victims of violence.
PS Koroivueta said that the initiative will provide a safe haven for those affected by violence.
President of the Soroptimist International South West Pacific (SISWP) Dato’ Anusha Santhirasthipam says the organisation is hoping to set up three centres ($200,000 each) which will cater for 8 people in terms accommodation, meals and other services like counselling.
Mrs Santhirasthipam said that she is committed to partnering with the Fijian Government in order to provide the best services for victims of violence. She also said that her organisation will be devoted to the rehabilitation of each victim; spiritually, mentally and physically.
The shelters are expected to be in operation by next year.
