Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Jone Usamate commended the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme(SPREP) and International Labour Organisation (ILO) for their commitment towards their forming a framework to work within the labour laws on the international front.
Usamate made the comments while officiating at the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between ILO and SPREP held at the Fiji Museum this evening.
Minister Usamate said through the commitment of this MOU will add value to our work on Decent Work here in Fiji and the region and as we measure ourselves against global standards.
“On the margins of COP23 in Germany , our Prime Minister launched our 5 Year AND 20 Year National Development Plan or NDP.”
“This sets out the strategic goals of “Transforming Fiji” in the most sustainable way that reflects our advocacy and fight against Climate Change which I am glad to see is linked to this undertaking.”
Usamate commended the two organisations for their contribution towards the Fijian government and their contribution to the Pacific.
The MOU signing was to formalise cooperation between ILO and SPREP in the areas of decent work in Fiji and the region and how we Pacific island states can meet the global labour standards.
