Minister for Waterways, Dr Mahendra Reddy today opened the 2018 crushing season at the Fiji Sugar Corporation’s Lautoka Mill.

The country’s biggest mill is expected to crush 485,000 tones of cane with a forecasted tones cane per tones sugar (TCTS) of 8.5 for 2018.

“The sugar industry is here to stay and it continues to be the Government’s vision to revitalize the industry, despite the numerous challenges which have been faced,” Dr Reddy reiterated.

The Fijian Government remains committed to the sugar industry and has allocated $62.3 million in the 2018-2019 National Budget for the sugar sector and Ministry of Sugar.
