Fiji Cancer Society launched Pinktober last night at the Tanoa Plaza Hotel in Suva.
Fiji’s minister of Health Dr.Ifereimi Waqainabete said that this month is a month to celebrate the work done to raise awareness and remember those who have passed from cancer.
He added that Fiji as a nation should use this Pinktober period as an opportunity to take what the Minister of health calls a “Health Selfie” the healthy take an inward look within themselves and be encouraged to be checked for all the different types of cancer.
He acknowledged the work that Fiji Cancer Society does and other corporate houses present during the launch and said that the corporate support towards pinktober is a support towards the work that his ministry do within their vicinity.
Breast cancer survivor Teresia Tokona who was accompanied by her husband, Robet Tokona said she is grateful for her husband’s support and care throughout her battle with cancer.
Cancer continues to be the third leading cause of death in the country and members of the public need to be aware that early detection of cancer is the best prevention as most cancers can be easily cured within the early stages.
