The Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa met with the newly appointed High Commissioner of India to Fiji, Her Excellency Padmaja in Suva this morning.
The Ministry has had a long ongoing friendship with India, especially in the facilitation of training for rural Fijian women as solar engineers at the Barefoot College in India.
This also includes donations of sewing machines in the previously by the Indian Government towards the Ministry’s sewing machine distribution program.
Vuniwaqa thanked the Indian Government for their assistance, especially as they were aimed at empowering the local communities in Fiji.
The Minister and the High Commissioner both acknowledged the ability and good sense in sharing knowledge and best practices to help the Fijian and the Indian governments continue to further improve the lives of their people through the work that the Ministry does.
