The Methodist Church of Fiji and Rotuma is mourning the passing of its Deputy General Secretary- Rev. Jeremaia Waqainabete,
Rev. Waqainabete passed away early last Saturday morning at his home in the Methodist Church in Fiji Residence in Pender Street, Suva.
Originally from the the island of Moala, Waqainabete served in circuit ministry and, prior to taking up office as Deputy General Secretary, was the Superintendent Minister of the Wesley Division.
He attained a Diploma in Theology and a Bachelor of Divinity from the Methodist Davuilevu Theological College and also a Master of Arts in Applied Theological Studies from Queen’s University in Birmingham, UK.
Waqainabete was a champion for environmental stewardship by the church and last year launched a publication on Christian Environmentalism in association with WWF Pacific.
He also had a strong social justice focus-in 2013, while a minister in the Muanikau Circuit of the Suva Division,Waqainabete established the Coffee Booth Ministry and personally led several social support services through the Wesley City Mission in Suva.
The formal funeral gathering will begin today at the Jubilee Hall in Toorak. He will be fare-welled at the Centenary Church in Suva this Friday.
He is survived by his Wife and three Childern.
