Football great Maradona is to keep his job as coach of the United Arab Emirates club Fujairah after it backtracked on a decision to sack him.
Last week the club missed out on promotion to the UAE’s Premier League and immediately sacked him but the club’s chairman has decided to reinstate Maradona and extend his contract for another year.
Maradona, 57, took over the coaching position in May 2017 on a one-year contract.
The result left Fujairah third in the table, denying them automatic promotion to the UAE’s top competition, the Arabian Gulf League.
The 1986 World Cup winner was in charge of the Argentina national team from 2008 to 2010.
He then spent a year with another UAE-based club, Al Wasl, between 2011 and 2012.
