No matter what life throws at you always have a positive attitude towards everything because a positive attitude changes everything, said Raymond Kant.

Raymond, who is employed as a Site engineer at the North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Rebuild , and is the first Fijian to hold this position, credits much of his current success to the two years he spent working for Fulton Hogan Hiways in Fiji as a Road Inspector.

Raymond spent the first five years of his life in Seaqaqa, Vanualevu, before his family moved to Savusavu, where he attended Khemendra Bhartiya School and Nasavusavu Secondary School, after which he completed the Bachelor of Engineering programme at the Fiji National University.

He is also extremely grateful to his parents, who worked hard all their lives to make opportunities possible that have led him to where he is now.

His two older siblings have also benefitted from their parents influence, with his brother working for FijiLink at Savusavu Airport and his sister pursuing a degree at the University of the South Pacific.

“It was the upbringing by my parents that instilled a mind-set to pursue success. My father was a vegetable farmer in Labasa and I remember him getting up early in the morning to go to the farm and coming home late, to be able to support us,” said Raymond.

His responsibilities at NCTIR include ensuring that contractors on site are complying with all necessary design, safety and environmental standards.
