Villagers in Lakeba have been reminded on the importance of upholding family values, and the benefits that comes with it, when practiced in our societies.

Assistant Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Adi Selai Adimaitoga was in Lau again today and told villagers  that family values are important in the upbringing of any person in his or her family based on the spirit of love and compassion.

“Respect for the iTaukei family values such as being obedient to parents and traditional leaders within their clans or Yavusa and Mataqali is what makes iTaukei families unique,” Assistant Minister Adimatoga says.

“This is the direction that the Ministry for iTaukei is taking today, ensuring that all iTaukei families are advocating for the importance of family values.”

Chairman of the Lau Provincial Council, Ilisoni Taoba, informed the council that he supported the sentiments echoed by the Assistant Minister.

“Our forefathers adhered to these family values, we must continue to follow their footsteps because they followed important iTaukei family values such as respect for the elders and leadership in the family, in the mataqali, and the Yavusa,” Taoba says.

The province of Lau has 72 villages and 13 Districts.
