Anjali Segnal Kumar has a passion for fashion and has set her sights on joining the vibrant industry.
The 18-year-old has enrolled at the National Training and Productive Centre’s (NTPC) week long short course in Sewing Machinist offered at Nabua Campus.
“I love fashion. The colours, cuts, material used and the final outfit fascinate me. I would flip through fashion links on social media just to get a glimpse of who was wearing what or who designed the outfit,” she said.
“I chose this career path because I want to become a fashion designer once I complete my training. Through this program I will learn the basics on how to operate a sewing machine and then move on to design and sketching or cutting.”
“Fashion designers are artistic and creative, something I consider myself to be,” added Kumar.
Kumar is originally from Labasa and currently resides in Suva. She completed her secondary education at Nakasi High School.
“I was looking for something that could help me succeed in life. I like FNU and the way they teach students and assist them to understand it,” she said.
“The fashion industry in Fiji is growing rapidly which indicates there’s high demand for fancy clothing. I believe more school leavers should take advantage such programmes.”
Kumar completes her programme this week.
