Minister for Fisheries,Semi Koroilavesau applauded the excellent partnership between the ministry and their New Zealand counterparts when he was hosted to an afternoon tea on board the HMNZS Otago in the weekend.
Koroilavesau says that the New Zealand Defence Force and Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) provided excellent support to Fiji authorities in enforcing fisheries rules and regulations.
Koroilavesau says that officers that boarded the vessel for short stints during the operation in Fiji have really improved their performances.
About 23 thousand kilometers were covered by the HMNZS Otago and 1,160 hours were spent on patrol during the combined operation.
Meanwhile, the seasonal ban on Kawakawa and Donu has officially been lifted beginning today, 1st October and will resume come the next spawning season which is from June to September 2019.
