A 23 footer Boat with a 75HP engine was handed over to the Kadavu Fishermen’s Association last week.
Minister for Forests, Osea Naiqamu said that the association in Kadavu is a trend setter for all the other associations around the country.
The Kadavu Fishermen’s Association have implemented sustainable harvesting practices and have also pledged their support in seasonal as well as long term bans on various marine species.
“You have once again proved to be dedicated members and representing fishermen on the island. You have advanced into sustainable management of your traditional fishing grounds and for that we are truly grateful”.
Fishing Aggregate Devices were also deployed around the island and fishermen have been taking advantage of fishing around them.
The association have also played an integral part in data collecting for the ministry in terms of fish harvested in a week as well as species.
