The Government of Japan will provide assistance worth $569 000 to the Labasa Town Council, Navuakece District School and Visama Village, through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects Programme.
The Japanese Government has granted the Labasa Town Council with $221 033 for the provision of a nine tonne garbage compactor truck.
The Council has expanded its services for solid waste collection to include the peri-urban and informal sectors.
$172 100 was given to the Navuakece District School for the construction of three classrooms.
The school has 177 students and has turned down many requests from parents who wished to enroll their children, because of space issues.
Meanwhile $87 602 was given to the Visama Village Development Committee to construct a foot bridge in Visama Village that has a population of 300 villagers.
