Former Fiji 7s rep Isake Katonibau has been remanded in custody for 7 days by Suva Magistrate Waleen George this afternoon .

The 7s star is charged with one count of serious assault.

Katonibau allegedly assaulted special police constable Peni Verekauta  yesterday morning.

It is alleged the police officer came across a group of men fighting in Suva.

It is also alleged that the officer saw Katonibau in the group and approached to stop them and was allegedly punched twice on his mouth by Katonibau.

Defense counsel requested the matter to be called in court tomorrow.

However Magistrate George said that assaulting a police officer is a serious offence and this was not the first time Katonibau has appeared in her court.

She said he also had previous cases of this nature and was given a warning the last time he was produced in court.

The matter has been adjourned to the 25th of June.
