Professional boxing is brewing with growing interest in the Heavyweight Division.

With the return of Heavyweight Title holder Petero Qica, the Division now has now received interest from former Amateur boxers such as Isikeli Navuni of Bukuya in Ba; Nadi resident Samisomi Harimoni,  Rotuman giant Vilisoni Tigarea and  Francis Rounds of Nadi.

Qica will find it tough this time around as his peers are of same age or younger than him compared to the time he came into the scene as a 20 year old and his opponents were almost or beyond 40 years of age. It will also boost his morale and make him train hard to defend his Title. At the moment Bukuya native Vilimoni Taganikula is the number one contender to for the Heavyweight Title fight against Qica.

The Boxing Commission of Fiji is working with local Promoters and overseas Promoters with anticipation the next Heavyweight sensation to come out from the Pacific will rise from Fiji to follow the footstep of the likes of Samoan greats David Tua and Joseph Parker who are NZ grown heavyweights and Fijian Kali Meehan who fought in Australia. They won international Heavyweight Titles and took the Division by storm.

Our physique and natural athleticism will make Fijian heavyweight boxers a force to reckon with but through proper training, guidance and support structure to create that pathway to international stardom. If we can produce world beaters in Rugby, we can also do that in professional boxing.

The first boxing Promotion in 2019 has 2 professional Heavyweight bouts and 1 exhibition bout.
