With 32 teams participating in this year’s Ovaltine Suva Business House Futsal Soccer League, each round of games is played in two phases whereby 16 teams participate in each phase over a period of two weeks.
Following the successful completion of both the phases of round one last week, the first phase of round two was played on Tuesday night with eight matches being played in a fast-paced action at the National Hockey Centre in Laucala Bay.
Defending champions Fiji Sun regained some pride after drawing their second pool match by one all against Acton Fiji. They started this year’s campaign on a low after losing their first match by 3-0 against Gokals who are one of the favourites in the competition this year after winning both their respective pool games so far.
“Teams which recorded back to back wins in their second respective pools games are HFC, Gokals, Pacific Customs and Westpac,” tournament organiser Alan Kumar of Bula Events Group said.
“The highlight of the night was the match between HFC and Fiji Times as the latter got thumped 7-0 in their second pool game,” Mr Kumar added.
HFC team manager Jasnit Vikash who is beaming with joy said the team is thankful to the organisers of the Ovaltine Suva Business House Futsal Soccer League for giving them an opportunity to showcase their talents.
“It is a very well organised event which has attracted interest of huge corporate teams,” Mr Vikash said.
He said the win against Fiji Times was not easy and was the result of hard work, determination and strong willpower.
“I would also like to acknowledge the commitment of the players who take out time from their busy schedules to represent team HFC,” Mr Vikash added.
“We have been preparing all throughout last week and we have received tremendous support from our bank management and sponsors.
“Our expectation from this competition is to build a stronger network with the participating corporate teams and actively engage the staff in sports to combat the ever-increasing issue of NCDs in Fiji.”
The games continue on Tuesday next week at the same venue and will carry on for the next 14 weeks.
