The Ministry of health and medical services this morning received 1000 wash hygiene kits from the Australian High Commission.
The hygiene kits will help strengthen the Ministry’s work on rehabilitating those affected by the recent flooding and to ensure good health in all communities around Fiji.
Minister for Health and Medical Services Hon. Rosy Akbar in receiving the kits stated that the kits will assist the Ministry in combating post-disaster diseases.
One of the key factors the Minister emphasised on is personal hygiene where she also stressed the need for everyone to take responsibility of their health.
Minister Akbar highlighted that the kits would be first distributed to areas affected by Tropical Cyclone Josie and Keni earlier this year.
Some communities have been selected to receive the kits and includes those in Rakiraki, Ba, Nadi and Kadavu.
“These hygiene kits offer fist-line of defense against the spread of illnesses that mainly communicable diseases,” she said.
She also acknowledged the Australian government and other stakeholders who have assisted in their work.
