Good news for seasonal workers!
The Seasonal workers cap has been increased to twelve thousand, eight hundred and fifty – under the New Zealand “Recognized Seasonal Employer” work scheme.
The new increase was recently announced by the New Zealand Government, at the beginning of the month of November, 2018.
Permanent Secretary for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations – Salaseini Daunabuna, pointed out that the increase will strengthen our ‘labour-sending’ opportunities to New Zealand.
Daunabuna also says that this will help Fiji provide the much needed labour, for the horticulture and viticulture sectors in that country.
She added that this is welcoming news for Fiji and other neighboring Pacific Island Countries, wanting more work opportunities under the scheme.
Fiji’s participation began in 2015, and the number of Fijians participating in the scheme has increased steadily, with more than 800 workers participating over a 3-year period.
The RSE scheme has seen benefits for both New Zealand and Pacific Governments, as well as for seasonal workers.
