A candlelight vigil in memory of the eight women who lost their lives to domestic violence was held at the Fiji Women Crisis Centre last night.

Around 100 people, including the Minister of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa and Opposition Member of Parliament Lenora Qereqeretabua were in attendance.

Fiji Women Crisis Centre Co-odinator Shamima Ali said this indicates, that people are willing to come on board and support the crisis cent in raising awareness.

Ali said the center will be increasing visibility through awareness in three different languages , specially in rural and maritime areas.

She added it is important to included men in the discussion by changing mindsets and promoting gender equality.

The centre is planning to hold a nationwide march with partnership with the government to mark the International day of the elimination of  violence against women on the 24th of November.
