Future teachers enrolled at the Fiji National University’s College of Humanities and Education – are exploring new dimensions of teaching methodologies, by providing reading sessions for children admitted at the Lautoka Hospital.

Seventeen first year Bachelor of Education Primary students enrolled at Natabua Campus – are part of a program that aims to make the hospital atmosphere, a little less overwhelming and whole lot brighter, for the children.

CHE Assistant Professor in Education – Dr Sunil Kumar, initiated the program to provide experience to future teachers, to read to patients admitted at the pediatric ward.

Kumar says that the ultimate goal of the project is to drive towards the fact, that teaching is not just teaching the curriculum to the students in the school setting, it is beyond that – it is about capacity and community development.

The outcome of this project will enhance our future teachers, to serve in their respective ‘vanuas’ and help the community grow, in the areas of needs.
